Tracts, we feature a unique topic outlining the therapeutic effects of mind-body therapies for musculoskeletal pain. Scientific literature, including clinical practice guidelines, recommend mind-body therapies as a primary intervention for managing spinal pain. For example, clinical practice guidelines published by the American College of Physicians (ACP) advocates for mind-body therapies such as yoga and Tai Chi for the effective management of chronic low back pain.
Dr. Sarah Kucera begins this issue with a feature article that highlights the effects of yogic breathing musculoskeletal pain. In his audio lecture, Dr. Chris Kinslow discusses the evidence-informed role of pain neuroscience education for the management of chronic pain, while Dr. Howe Liu emphasizes the clinical significance of deep diaphragmatic breathing associated with Tai Chi movement. In our abstracts section, Dr. Brad Muir reviews several scientific articles that support using mind-body therapies for chiropractic patients. Lastly, in the second part in his series on Unethical Practice Activities, Dr. Brian Gleberzon explores problematic behaviors including fearmongering, deceptive/misleading advertising, and questionable requirements for off-hours patient consultations.
I trust that as the reader, you will find this issue of D.C. Tracts both informative and interesting, refining your clinical expertise and patient services.
